Andrea O'Connor
MS Sp. ED/ASL
Owner and Creator of First Expressions
Andrea holds her Masters Degree in Special Education and has more than 10 years experience teaching American Sign Language (ASL) from infant-to-college level, and working with the Western New York Deaf Community.
Andrea uses ASL to benefit hearing children as an Early Intervention Service Provider. She specializes in using ASL to establish a basis of communication between non-verbal or pre-verbal children and their parents and care givers. She firmly believes in the philosophy & research-based benefits of using true ASL vs. home-made or made-up signs.
Andrea is an Adjunct Professor at SUNY College at Buffalo where she teaches ASL through the Department of Speech Language Pathology. She also teaches parent-baby classes, adult classes, and provides workshops for professional service-providing agencies.
Andrea is the proud mother of two signing children and is the only instructor in Western New York officially certified to teach the nationally award winning SIGN with your BABY Program. Visit www.sign2me.com for more information on this pioneering program.
